We use advance technology to generate pictures of your mouth and diagnose conditions that require treatment. A digital X-ray may be sufficient for this purpose in some cases, but more complex situations, such as implant treatment, may require more sophisticated diagnostic testing.
CT Scans
A CT (computed tomography) scan involves taking numerous sequential images of your mouth to create a panoramic image of your teeth, tissues, and bones. Cone beam imaging is a more advanced version of CT scanning. This type of imaging passes a continuous stream of cone-shaped waves through your jaw to create a more detailed and precise image almost instantly. Cone-beam-generated images are also 3-D rather than two-dimensional, providing greater diagnostic information.
We have invested in this technology for the benefit of our patients. We provide 3D CBTCT imaging in our own office. Most dental practices do not have this imaging in-house and either refer patients to 3d imaging facilities or depend on two-dimensional x-rays, resulting in higher out-of-pocket costs for oral health care or diagnostics based on less precise imaging.

It is vital to keep a bit ahead of the curve in the ever-changing world of technology. Sierra Dental Care is continually searching for ways to enhance our practice, procedures, and treatment for the best possible outcomes for our patients. This is one of the reasons we have started scanning our patients with CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography) instead of the usual x-ray that many clinics utilize, and we have been doing so for years!
The previous standard in dentistry and orthodontic clinics was to scan them with x-rays for intraoral, extraoral, and panoramic pictures to treat and diagnose patients. The CBCT is now the gold standard in dental scanning, thanks to advances in technology.
The CBCT is an excellent diagnostic technique in orthodontics that offers a more accurate image of the individual's teeth, jaw, roots, and overall bone structure than a typical x-ray. It aids in demonstrating the direction and location of teeth and roots in relation to the roots of neighboring teeth. This is especially very important when a patient has additional teeth or impacted teeth that are emerging in the wrong direction. It is essentially a better scan utilized in dentistry to offer the doctor a 3D view of the jaws, teeth, and facial structures instead of a 2D image of a conventional x-ray. CBCT helps the doctor make a diagnosis, create a treatment strategy, and evaluate any other problems that may occur.
You've probably heard of a C.T. scan. C.T. Scan is not the same as the CBCT used in dental clinics. What are some of the distinctions? The CT scan employs a fan beam, which transmits radiation in a helix/spiral shape. The CBCT scanner sends out radiation in the form of a cone. The spiral motion of the C.T. scan generates more radiation than the CBCT scan. Another significant distinction is how the scan is performed. The patient must be lying down for traditional C.T. scans. This does not apply to all CBCT scanners.
